BRENDAPALOOZA$50 GIFT CERTIFICATE Brenda Landuyt Herzberg, from Ladora/Marengo, IA, is an Administrative Assistant at
the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. On January 14, before she left work to
go to her car, she walked to the Neurology Department to tell them she had a
tremendous headache. By God’s grace, she collapsed right there, and due to that
blessing, survived a stroke/aneurysm that she wouldn’t have, had it happened at any
other time or place.
Brenda recently was transferred from the U of I, after 30 days in the SICU, then the
Neurology floor, to St Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA, to their Rehabilitation
Unit. No estimate yet on total recovery/rehab time, but they are assuming many
months. At this date (March 15) our hope is that along with basic survival, she has
her neurological functions back to normal. Only time will tell.
We are going to be holding a benefit, scheduled for March 27th, and are planning on
having a silent and a live auction, a raffle, and a meal in conjunction with a
dance. All will be held at Victor American Legion Hall. We are inquiring to your
organization to see if you would be interested in making a donation to this event.
The family will have monumental bills to pay following months of medical care, and
months of rehabilitation costs. Our goal is to help defray these if possible.
We thank you so much if you are able to help us out. Please be assured that we
appreciate any and all donations.
Please feel free to call us with any questions you may have.
Thank you and God bless;

AEGONFRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY/CANCER AWARENESS FUNDRAISER
$25 GIFT CERTIFICATE I’d like to thank you for helping us last year regarding our fundraiser. This year I am on a
committee for two separate fundraisers. The first one takes place in May and is for separate Cancer charities. We will be
doing a raffle and splitting all the assets amongst the Especially For You Breast
Cancer, Aiming For A Cure (Pediatric Cancer) & the Jimmy V Foundation Cancer
Research. The second one is in June for the Friends of the Library. As you are
aware of, Cedar Rapids was badly affected by the floods of 2008. The library lost
everything and we are doing a fundraiser event this summer to provide funds to fill
as many shelves in the new building as we can! This loss affected our citizens and
has been truly missed. AEGON has over 2000 employees that will be able to participate in these wonderful
raffles. Your business name will go on all the posters that are done up along with
all emails and internal websites that are sent to all of our employees to show our
appreciation for our sponsors/donors. Please let me know if your business will be
able to donate. Our fundraisers will be in May and June of 2010. (Please make note
– especially if there is an expiration date on your donated gift!)
Donated items can be sent to my attention: AEGON USA, Attn: Lynn Schliemann - MS
3850, 4333 Edgewood Rd NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52499-3850 or contact me at 319.355.2072

UNIVERSITY OF IOWA HOSPITALS
HUNTINGTON DISEASE CENTER OF EXCELLENCE
$50 GIFT CERTIFICATE The HDSA needs
your help! We are hosting the 2010 HDSA Iowa City Hoop-A-Thon on April 11, 1–4 p.m.
at Iowa City West High School to raise money for Huntington disease (HD) research
and care. HD is an inherited, progressively degenerative brain disease for which
there is presently no effective treatment or cure. HD affects a person’s ability to
speak, walk, swallow, and reason.
Hoop-A-Thon participants stand at the free-throw line and attempt to make as many
shots as they can in 5 minutes. Shooters collect donations or pledges per shot made.
Attendees can also take part in a silent auction, cake walk and Wii Sports
tournament.
Our goal is to top the $50,000 raised in the state last year for HD research and
care, and we are asking for your help by donating items for our silent auction,
which we see as our biggest need. You can also sponsor employees who may wish to
participate in the free-throw shooting contest, or make a monetary contribution.

CEDAR RAPIDS SOKOL
$50 GIFT CERTIFICATE
I'm writing on behalf of Sokol Gymnastics of Cedar Rapids. Sokol is an international non-profit
organization that was brought to the United States by Czech immigrants in the late
1800's, based on the credo of “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body”. Sokol gymnastics has
been a longstanding part of Cedar Rapids. As with most of Czech Village, the Sokol
Hall, including the gym, and all of its equipment, was destroyed in the June 2008
flooding. The members, coaches, students, and families have worked tirelessly to
rebuild it. Some of the equipment has been replaced, but we still have a long way
to go We are planning a fundraising pancake breakfast for Sunday, May 9 and we’re asking
you for a donation of a gift certificate that we can use as a door prize. Nice
prizes like this would really help boost our attendance. The proceeds will be used
to purchase needed equipment for the gym.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. If you have any questions, please give me
